We're back!

Seriously, following Jose Canseco on Twitter is the height of hilarity, if you don't mind watching a guy that is unravelling mentally. Check out the post at right.

Toronto FC played far and away their best game of the year in a 2-0 home win over the Seattle Sounders at soggy BMO Field. Nice to see Julian De Guzman show up, heard he signed last August. Coach Preki was glowing in his praise of the effort and result though he's concerned about the recklessness of some players: "I want us to be committed and hard, but not stupid."

Strangely, so far there hasn't been a single rainout this MLB season, and only two games thus far -- one at Yankee Stadium on April 16th, and last night at Citi Field -- have been shortened by the elements.

All eight NHL postseason series were even after two games for the first time in the best-of-seven era. Also this round: 18 too-many-men penalties, so far. Seems a bit much, no?

Speaking of the NHL, Vancouver took out LA Kings last night to advance, joining the Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks as the first to move onto round two. Three game sixes on the go tonight with Pittsburgh, Chicago and Boston all needing a win to advance. Quite the competitive first round, it must be said, with only the Flyers taking care of business in five games.

Chelsea crushed Stoke City 7-0 to get a touch closer to the English Premier League title. Two games left to play and one point up on Manchester United. Chelsea can all but seal it with a win Saturday at Liverpool, though that is no gimme.

Check out the Baltimore Orioles next 14 games: four against Boston, six against the New York Yankees, and four against Minnesota. The Orioles, 3-16 now, might sit 5-28 after all that is said and done. Ouch.

I could go the easy route and just unload with a variety of takes on the NFL draft this past weekend, but instead I'll go with two. The first covers the winners and losers, the second does the grade method. If the latter proves accurate and Dez Bryant ends up rookie of the year for the Dallas Cowboys, that's a hell of a steal for a #24 pick.

As for the Buffalo Bills, owner Ralph Wilson emphatically stated the Bills had no intention of moving up to pick Tim Tebow with a late first round pick, while the Denver Broncos camp contends they were hellbent on Tebow. I don't know what Tebow does as a pro, but the one universally agreed upon bit of analysis I've read this weekend is Denver reached big in taking him in the first round.

Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United's manager, is as good as they come with more medals than a war vet. But when he says that Gary Neville could and should be in the mix for a spot on England's World Cup entry, it makes me question his sanity. I get having your players back, but Neville is beyond expired.

Here's a little quiz for you if you've got some time. Take your pick on Vancouver real estate, and guess whether it is Crack Shack Or Mansion. Frightening.

At the Penn Relays this past weekend, Usain Bolt ran am 8.79 anchor leg in the 4x100 race. Crazy fast. Check this out.

Finally today, if you haven't seen the A-Rod run across the mound that created a fuss in Oakland last week, check it out below. Just wondering though, when a pitcher covers behind the plate on a run-scoring hit, is he allowed to walk through the batter's box? Does anybody care?

Dez Bryant has great skills, but hasn't played in a year. No way does he win ROY, especially with the crowd of receivers Dallas has.

^This is the best draft review. Bucs had a franchise changing draft, and 2nd year GM is the real deal...

Bryant could well thin out that receiving corps of a certain #11 in a hurry, or raise his level significantly. Either way, good for Dallas.

Real shocker you went with an article praising the Bucs as the "best" one. Not hard to have a franchise changing draft when you've been terrible for a couple years, is it?

And that NOBODY Braden should know his place in the universe and shut the fuck up when an all-timer gets anywhere near him. Even if it was intended to piss him off, so what? He's the clown throwing his glove around in the middle of a beating. If you believe in the "unwritten rules", surely you believe veritable rookies shouldn't say a word to multiple time MVP's, All-Stars and the like.

I don't give a shit who you are, you do something dick like that, you deserve to get called out. Good for Braden. If Youkilis did the same thing and Joba flipped on him you'd have loved it plain and simple.

And for the record the Bucs have been up and down since the SB, but only one straight year of being "horrible". And they're on their way back and building the right way. the turnaround will be pretty quick, as pretty much every piece is in place, just need a stud DE. And talking about steal WRs in the draft, the Bucs had the biggest one in Mike Williams. Dude is just as talented as bryant but slipped to the 4th because of similar concerns Dez had. much better value...

Also Habs have called up future superstar PK Subban for tonight. With Tyler myers, John Carlsson, Erik Karllson, Drew Doughty, all looking awesome for their teams in the playoffs, bout time the Habs called up their stud young offensive defenseman...

Do "something dick like that"? Be sure to watch the ChiSox sometime. AJ Pierzinski does it EVERY SINGLE CHANCE he can, and nobody says a word (and neither did you when he did it to the Jays a couple weeks back, nor did you talk about how he faked getting hit to get on before Rios busted up a no-hitter). But because some NOBODY wants to get a rep and take a run at A-Rod, that's fine? Whatfuckingever. I'd bet anything that until last week, you'd never even heard of this unwritten rule.

The difference with Joba is he wouldn't be spouting off making a big scene about it telling the media if his grandmother did it he'd freak on her too. He'd plant one in his ribs next time around and end of story. Best part is A-Rod initiated a triple play immediately after. Hope Braden enjoyed that moments before the "L" went up beside his name. Also, I'm sure had he gone third to second back to first, you'd be on him for wasting time.

Williams as talented as Bryant? Well, that's original anyways. Nobody else is saying that.

"Future superstar PK"? Just sounds funny even typing that. Nice work!

Maybe I didn't say anything about Pierzinski here, but I was talking about it with my sports pals. And it's not so much an "unwritten rule" as it is common sense. It's like cutting behind the goalie and through his crease in hockey. That's his space. Respect it. If you don't expect a reaction. The fact Arod thinks he can do as he pleases and not get a reaction is the real laugher. Dude is living in a fantasy world. And I played baseball as a kid growing up, and speaking for myself, I knew cutting over the mound was a no-no. the fact you say Joba would have beaned him had it happened to him, tells me you know this yourself.

Nice read on Mike Williams to familiarize yourself with what i'm talking about:

As for PK watch the game tonight and tell me for yourself the kid is an absolute an animal. You don't remember him from the WJC a couple of years ago?

^ and here's Mike Williams side of the story...

You're misinterpreting the general for the specific. I'm saying if Joba had a problem, he wouldn't be bitching at the other player or team, he'd just put a seed in the guys ribs and pretend it was a coincidence when asked - same as he's done after hitting Youk a half dozen times. No need for media drama, everybody knows.

As for Subban, my bad, because of the way the lines wrapped I read "superstar PK" which sounded like you were calling him a superstar penalty killer. Fuckin' Pierre Maguire and his goddamn acronyms. Yes, I remember Subban well, just seems odd that they'd look to him in Game 6 when he hasn't played all year if I'm not mistaken. Seems...desperate.

BigHeadedJerk said...

Subban played 2 games this year, had a point in each, was a +1, and was the best player on the ice.

As a rookie in the AHL this season he had 53 points, and was a +46. In 6 playoff games so far for the bulldogs he has 9 points.

IMO he should have been up since the olypic break.

He best be that good and more if they're to extend and win the series.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if they do - me and three buddies did a pool where we drafted teams for the playoffs (so four each) and they'd give me four advancing to the second round assuming the Hawks take care of business too, while leaving the guy with the Caps with no teams left.

All about pool wins!

At the very least he'll bring tons of enthusiasm...
