Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 - Favre Saga Done...Almost

Jason Bay is off to a great start in Beantown, but Big Papi is missing ManRam in a big way so far. That, and his problem wrist is acting up again...I find it funny how everyone automatically says Brett Favre is better than Rodgers. Really? Even when they've installed a new offence that presumably will play to Rodgers strengths, and that he's worked with for months? I think Favre's one injury on another squad from getting moved. If you're Favre, what do you say to the rest of your team when you walk in? How is what he did any better than Ricky Williams when he walked a few years back and guys called him a quitter and said they'd never trust him again? This circus is just getting started. It ends with just one ring for Favre, and that is not saying one more than he's already got. Looks like the story ends today with Favre likely off to Tampa Bay...NCAA football fans will be happy to hear that The Score is broadcasting a game each Thursday night...RM reader Bukkake is like me, and loves it when things go wrong at Notre Dame. Check out QB Jimmy Clausen here playing beer pong in a nice get-up. Love the writers comment about Clausen wearing something from The Ultimate Warrior's clothing line...the words "seeing Dr. James Andrews" are not what I wanted to hear linked to Joba Chamberlain. The Yankees may as well go see him too, they're in a world of trouble minus J.C...I've been to a couple dozen NFL games in my time, and am pretty sure that I've violated most of these rules more than once in the NFL's new Code of Fan Conduct. Lame, but just in time for Toronto, where fun is frowned upon...the talk of Thierry Henry going to the MLS is back on, with New York Red Bull the rumored destination. This Gillette curse is ridiculous!...former UFCer Tito Ortiz, who hasn't won a fight in two years since he pounded an over the hill Ken Shamrock, is set to sign a record deal with Donald Trump's Affliction loop. Guess that run on The Apprentice worked out pretty well for the Huntington Beach Bad Boy...don't let the Opening Ceremonies Friday fool you, the Olympics got under way today and Canada's women's soccer team were 2-1 winners over Argentina...have a great Wednesday.

Apparntly the Jets have made a better offer, and would be out of conference, but Favre isn't interested. One thing though is Favre improves the Bucs. Before him I'd say TB is in the group below the boys and Saints, with Philly, NYG, and Seattle, Arizona, and Possibly Washington. With Favre the Bucs are top 3 in the conference heading into the season. We've improved the team, and Brett is sure to make things interesting and sometimes in a bad way. My only real concern from a football standpoint is if he can learn Grudens offense, one of the more complicated in the NFL, in limited time. And that's the big question.

re: NFLs Code of Conduct

#2 - " Drunkenness and signs of alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior."

thems gonna be some empty stadiums in Buffalo this year ....

BHJ, I don't think anyone is going to confuse Favre as being a rocket surgeon, and he's just as likely to demand the team scrap everything and let him call plays by drawing them in the sand the way he's behaved of late. That, and I think his days as an elite player are long past. LONG. Last year was the aberration, not the 3/4 years ahead of that.

YF, what a joke, eh? Can't wait for them to try that at BMO. You have to assume it is coming.

I don't know about 3rd in the conference. I think the whole NFC east is better then TB with Favre. Plus NO and GB (going to be better without Favre).

I thought rule #2 was a requirement for attending a Bills game.

Rocket surgeon?

Anonymous said...

That would be breaking rule #2

TB said...

Rocket surgeon? Yeah...like brain scientist? Must I explain everything here?

"Well, it's not rocket surgery." David Lee Roth, on why he is reuniting with Van Halen.

Apparntly the Jets have offered up a better offer than the Bucs have, though Favre would prefer Tampa.

And Gruden would never let Favre act like a dick and get away with it. Gruden has just as big an ego as Favre and won't let anyone dictate how is offense will be but him. I think there will be alot of Jon yelling at Favre, and alot of Favre getting pissed back, but in the end I think it will be a succesful marriage as the two them at the end of the day just want to win football games.

And Tampa aint no lightweight. The best defense in the NFL, plus very good special team. If our Offense is merely solid we're in the mix...

Best D in the NFL? Did the rest all die on a plane crash?

Anonymous said...

Mk, maybe I missed it. In vacation mode. What they going to bring to BMO?

TB said...

I meant that no doubt they'll try to put some rules like the NFL is in at BMO...and a riot will ensue.

3rd in pts allowed per game, 2nd in yards allowed per game. The only team better than that were the Steelers (and tampa was first all year long until they rested their starters in week 17)though they were also on the field less than any other team in the NFL. The fact they have been top ten in ten of the past eleven years, and contrary to popular belief are actually getting younger, Tampas D is elite, and in this posters opinion the best there is...

TB said...

U of T would have a stout D playing in that division, one of two in the NFL that only had one team at .500 or better.

Anonymous said...

TB is right their divison was a joke. Bucs are 4-12 with avg D if they play in the NFC east or AFC south. They might of played 4 teams that made the playoffs last yr.
The D was good back with Dungy and original Tampa 2.

BigHeadedJerk said...

You think NO doesn't have an O? They sucked because of their D. You guys overate the East. The Boys are sick, and the Giants got hot at the right time, but Philly and the redskins aren't anything special. Tampas D has been Nasty for over a decade. The true mastermind is Kiffen, everyone knows that, and he's still kicking. Gaines Adams, Tanard Jackson, Jovan Haye, Barret Ruud, and Aqib Talib. Those are the names of the new Pewter People Eaters. The D was 2nd in the NFL in yards allowed and 3rd in points allowed last year. Only Pitt was better and they're D was on the field the least of any in the NFL thanks to a clock eating offense. Best D is in Tampa. Great Kicker, great Punter, solid running game, we just need an offense that can scare people. Favre to galloway will.

Dude, the heart of the Bucs D is the Tampa 2 which Dungy derived from his days with Steelers.
Kiffin is great don't get me wrong but Dungy layed it out for Monte to play it out! Thats why one is a great HC now and one is still a good D Coord.

NFC east had 3 teams in the playoffs last yr and evryone bettered themselves (except maybe the Giants) in the off season.

BigHeadedJerk said...

Kiffin is a Hall of Famer as strictly a Defensive coordinator, much more than merely a "good" defensive coordinator. Dungy may have instilled the philosophy, borrowed from the Steelers, but Kiffin is the guy who's been the constant force throught it's greatness in Tampa. The Colts defense has been improved but has not come close to matching what Tampas Defense has been since Dungy got fired. And most of the imitation "Tampa 2s" have had limited success as well. The constant force in Tampa over the last decade plus, where Tampa has had a consistently outstanding d over that span, has been Monte Kiffin. Dungy is a great coach, but he was always more of a motivator, despite his defensive background, and the fact he brought in the philosophy. Kiffin is a pure defensive mind and has taken the Tampa 2 to unrivaled heights in terms of consistant greatness. The guy is a machine. I follow the Bucs religiously...

TB said...

Tampa Bay would be better off bringing in Steve Young than Brett Favre if they're looking to top Dallas this year. The Boys, after all, OWN old man Favre...particularly in Texas.

TB said...

You also follow the Jays religiously, and we know how that's panned out in your wagers with me.

BigHeadedJerk said...

People underestimate Gruden. the NFL is a coaches league and despite limited talent especially on offense we have two great minds in Gruden and Kiffin. Grudens play calling will keep Favre under control. I'm talking all this, and honestly I don't even think he'll end up in Tampa. Word is the Jets offer is sweeter, and the Packers would way rather move Favre out of conference, especially considering the Bucs and Pack even play each other this year...

BigHeadedJerk said...

Wow, you beat me in the last week of our bet you thought you were going to dominate. the Jays are a different story, and I admit they suck. The Bucs are a borderline playoff team as of right now, but with Favre we are in the mix as much as the Giants were last year...

TB said...

Which is to say, not in the mix much at all. The Giants were a wild card last year, recall.

TBay is 50/50 to win the division...but that's largely because of the division being half crap. I'd rate New Orleans to win it, and Tampa just behind.

Personally, I look forward to Favre getting maimed wherever he plays. Preferably in a visit to Dallas.

BigHeadedJerk said...

As of right now I have the Cowboys ranked #1 and the Saints #2 in the NFC. After them two, there is a grouping of the Giants, Bucs, Pack, Seahawks and Cards. The Giants could move up into that elite grouping if they continue where they left off, the Cards could dropout of that grouping if their QB play falls off what Warner did for them last year, and Philly can join that grouping if McNabb is Healthy. If the Bucs get favre they join the Giants as a team that could push into that elite grouping if things go well.

BigHeadedJerk said...

Vikings and Bears could be in the mix if they get some much improved QB play. Or in the Vikes case, if Adrian goes off like few have, something he is capable of...

Overall there are alot of solid to good teams in the NFC.

And after all of this Favre is a Jet...
