Stay classy, Joe

Joe Torre's reputation as a classy guy is about flushed now with a new book coming out next week. How else do explain him cracking on former boss Brian Cashman for not standing up for him after the 2007 season, when Torre had previously and repeatedly said he had? If not for Cash, he'd have been unemployed after he led the Yanks into the toilet with a 3-0 lead over the Boston Red Sox in 2004. Good of him to hammer A-Rod too, the guy who almost single-handedly took the Yanks to the playoffs in 2007 and made him even a possibility for 2008. Let's see what kind of manager he is if the LA Dodgers are minus Manny Ramirez. ManRam's the only reason Torre saw the playoffs last year, even in a garbage division. Stay classy, Joe...the LA Galaxy have set their sites on Newcastle United striker Michael Owen. I'd give that about no chance of happening in the next couple years, and why would they want Owen in any event? He's about as fragile as an athlete can be...current Galaxy star David Beckham, on loan with AC Milan, scored his first with the Serie A side and that will only escalate the talk he's going to stay beyond March...incredibly, 65% of respondants at an ESPN.com poll would rather have Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner lead their team in the Super Bowl than the Pittsburgh Steelers Ben Roethlesberger, leading in every state but Pennsylvania. Count me among the 35% and come next Monday, that number will flip. Warner cannot handle a rush, and it forces him to make bad throws and fumble the ball. Big Ben doesn't rattle that easy, and hell, he can carry a couple would be tacklers if need be and complete a throw...any regular reader here will know I crack on the NHL regularly for being pretty dull to watch overall, but yesterday's 12-11 goalfest in the All-Star game may have been even worse than watching two skill-killing trap teams go at it. Perhaps I shouldn't be so harsh, what with my legendary hate of the All-Star game concept in all sports aside from baseball...how'd you like that for easy Prime Time Pickin's yesterday? The Boston Celtics dumped 74 points on the Dallas Mavs by the break and cruised to a 24 point beatdown. Have .500 well within my sites and the horror of that second week in January is starting to fade...have a great Monday, back later with your Prime Time winner.

I agree 100% about that NHL all star game last night. After I got bored with the Raptor game I flicked to the ASG. Fuckin unbelievable. No hitting I could understand, no defense made it terrible, and skating around in slow speeds made it unbareable to watch.

If your going to stick an ASG like this down the fans throats then I think it should be held in the summer, outdoors, and all in the name of charity. No way should the NHL make profit off that garbage.

Summer and outdoors? So where then? Igloolik?

Not sure about having it outside of season, but outdoors and aimed towards charity would be great.

Question to the more MLS savy on here; if Beckham joins Milan, will he still count towards Galaxys cap?

Big Ben has looked terrible in some games this year, but he knows how to step it up come the big game. Count me in the 35% as well.

It's been done in Vegas before, they're also talking Rose Bowl. I'm show it could done.

Beckham is a DP (designated player) and they don't count towards the cap I believe.

Wow., I thought the All-Star game was outstanding. Overtime and the shootout was magical...

I liked it too, love the pond hockey/fun feel to it.

ASG was pretty cool as I only watched after the Rap game. Luongo miked up was cool and the overtime and s/o were fun. Too bad Vinny didn't score.

Of course you liked it BHJ, it was half Habs on the East. :)

Took the Suns, almost didn't notice you made your pick TB.

Took Houston at +1 looks good value too.

i thought the ASG was unwatchable.
the skills competition made me cringe on so many levels too.

The skills competition is worse, and the way they run it makes the league come off so bush it is laughable. "Oops, we couldn't get the clock working on the race around the rink...AGAIN!"

The breakaway thing is a joke, 90% of what they tried failed and the fucking ADVERTISED that they had some amateur in net who WAS TOLD TO LET IN GOALS and they still couldn't do it! Put that whole night out of its misery and scrap it. It was ALL shit.

"He hit the target...nope...he didn't...hey, he got four out of four!"

As for the game itself, I'm amazed that anybody finds it entertaining. Pretty sure Stevie Wonder could skate out there and find the back of the net at least once for all the defence being played. That people pay for that shows PT Barnum was on the money: there's a sucker born every minute.

Two fools born a minute -- guess that makes me three."

that the big story the next day was that ovechkin put on a hat and shades (how car-a-zee!) pretty much tells ya all ya need to know about the "product."

YF, I believe $400k counts towards the cap - the amount above it doesn't. I might be wrong with MLS complex cap rules, but pretty sure that's the way she goes.

Yea I'd check on rpb but they just slapped me with a month ban ( I can't get away from these things!)
But ya your right 400k does go towards the cap and everything else does not count.

I agrre about scraping the skills comp, but the actual game was great fun...

And yea, loving them hab allstars!

Komisarek out there was kind of silly, a guy whose game is blocking shots, hitting people, and shutting down the opposition hardly fit in. Laughed when he got a penalty after trying to join the rush in OT...

^ i guess we have way, way different definitions of "great fun."

haven't heard (m)any of the puckheads on tv say much good about it either.
