Monday, June 9th, 2008 - Germany Rolls Through Poland

Can't imagine that Croatia could've played much worse than yesterday's second half against Austria, and they were fortunate to escape with the points in a 1-0 win. Looking like the pre-tourney pick to take it all I figured they were, Germany looked fantastic in downing Poland 2-0 on the strength of a pair from Lukas Poldolski...the Euro account - based on a $100 wager per game on the money line at Pinnacle - sits at +$402 after a 4-0 open. For Monday action, I've got France at -117 and a Dutch/Italian draw at +210. As Red Heat says, "may the winners be mine"...tough to imagine a more thorough dismantling of a legend than the one Rafael Nadal put on Roger Federer. The way those Gillette pitchmen have gone of late, Tiger Woods might want to disassociate himself and fast...well, at least Toronto FC hadn't played a stinker in two months until they got chewed up by Houston. That's 14 goals against in 5 road games. Here's hoping they're far better come Saturday night when they host Colorado...Tony Romo shot an 84 at Torrey Pines. Guessing that whole U.S. Open thing isn't going to pan out after all. At least he's good at football, and tapping blondes...if the story of Floyd Mayweather jumping to UFC is true, you can expect Mayweather to suffer his first defeat almost immediately. Boxers can stand and trade, but he'd be utterly lost the second a fight went to ground. That, and for a guy who loves money, there isn't quite so much in UFC unless you're at the top, and even then, nothing like he's received in boxing or even WWE...not looking good for the LA Lakers after a total beatdown at the hands of the Boston Celtics in Game 2. The Celts are taking this one with ease so far. I'd hate to be a female working in a hotel with Kobe a guest right now...have a great Monday.

I think Vladimir Radmanovic is more due for the full-on Rocky Mountain Kobe treatment than any poor hotel workers. Well, VladRad, Luke Walton, Lamar Odom, and Sasha Vujacic equally.

Pau-t looked great in a few flashes that game. Those flashes I think added up to 6 aggregate seconds.

The +170 I got before this series started is looking fine right now.

Group of death kicks off today..hoping the Italians get their asses handed to them.

Mo..go out and sign a DP already..terrible...and I never want to see Velez start again...though I must admit seeing DeRo pull off that "Scarborough" dance everytime he scores is a thing of beauty.

yeah, i love DeRo's chicken strut.
did you see him get interviewed at the half?
the dude couldn't even breathe.

Anybody got a cross-word they need completed? Has to be more exciting than this France/Romania snoozer.

only five games in, but i don't ever recall such a boring tournament. not one thriller so far. and the france-romania one takes the cake as the most boring so far.

So far, Group of Death = Group of Dull.

Refreshing to see some fans of a given sport that can be critical of the sport. Try that with a hockey fan sometime...

Posted this on rpb but I'll post it here as well:

Terrible quality. I was expecting more from today because of the "group of death". However, we were warned that this is the new style of football. Not exciting but there will be more parity based on the fact teams love to hold the ball and capitalize off one error...no more running really.

6 goals in 5 games...need I say more.

Nistelroy at 20 min: That's why players dive... They don't get the call when they try to stay up and finish...

Great no-call on the offside, Italian player laying off the field behind goal... Seems no news stations picked it up though... Good to see the refs redeem themselves after the iffy no-call on the penalty.

So Euro 08 picking up anyone?

Best half of the tourney so far, easy really. Sneijder's goal was a BEAUTY.

Looking like a sure 0-2 day for my Euro picks.

Yeah, tb i was about to comment on that... your 4-0 is looking more like a 4-2 now...

No doubt. I'm just curious to see how I do with this overall once the tourney wraps up. The forced nature of the $100 (and only $100) makes it a chore, but all in fun (fortunately), though I did drop a $100 on Croatia and scraped by there.

So far only Portugal, Germany and Holland have looked good. Looking forward to see Spain tomorrow and how Russia will look without Pogrebnjak.

Engelaar is surprising me, he's playing well for a 2 meter tall, gigantic midfielder. If Barry moves this off-season I wouldn't mind seeing him in claret and blue.

not the first time in history Germany rolled through Poland ...

still recovering from Friday. Seriously.
