Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 - American Idle Returns?
Good to see Toronto FC understands that if you have two guys with the same surname, there's no need for an initial for their first name as they're already wearing different numbers...if somebody can explain how the pool at the Olympics was "fast", I'd love to hear it...Victor Conte of BALCO fame says that while 80% of athletes were doing performance enhancing drugs a couple years back, it is still 65% because testing doesn't touch users out of season, and says that tips from the labs doing testing help users stay clean. Some heavy, heavy accusations...answering the question "does a fool ever learn?" in the negative, the Cincinnati Bengals are close to a deal with Chris Henry. I'm sure Carson Palmer is elated...the Washington Nationals are well on their way to a 100+ loss season. Karma for how they got their team from Montreal? I'd think so, if not for that D-Bag Jeffrey Loria winning a World Series in Florida...not sure there are many guys in the wrestling biz today that can excel as a heel or face as well as Chris Jericho can and does, but gimme more Santino Marella...in his three starts since the Seattle Mariners didn't move Jarrod Washburn, he's been lit like a Christmas tree. Well played, Mariners...not sure when it happened, but ESPN The Magazine is a better read than Sports Illustrated...that's 9 medals for Canada. Poor YF has a wager on them winning fewer than 10. You're done, bro...Carl Pavano might return to start for the Yankees? If I'm Brian Cashman, I get him in there and start him every day for the rest of this going-nowhere season...the U.S. dropped a huge beatdown on Germany in men's hoops, winning by 49. They've got Australia up next. Hard to imagine anyone touching them at this point...have a great Tuesday.

nice to see Canada finally moving past Phelps in the medal standings
But I still rank Phelps higher; all of his were gold
i personally think it's bunk that swimmers can vie for so many medals.
i mean, come on, 4X200m freestyle relay and 4X100m freestyle relay ... 100m butterfly and 200m butterfly.
i don't think it's a stretch to assume if you're great at one, you're probably great at the other.
let's award basketball medals to the best 10-minute team, the best halftime team, the best three-quarter team and then the best four-quarter team. and then maybe a basketball showcase relay.
etc.
Ya Fuckin Canada wins 11 in 4 days.
Just dropped some on Rasner (+120) to rape AJ. Because I'll be in the building...I think the Yanks will come out on top.
I agree with gbvh about there being too many swimming medals. Usain Bolt is the true star of the games. Phelps is an absolutely dominate swimmer no doubt, but what Bolt has done on the track has impressed far more. There just aren't nearly the amount of events for him dominate. It's like if they added a 50m, 150m, and 250m dash.
yf- So combining the price of your ticket, the amount of money you bet, and the amount your going to drop on booze to drown your sorrows, I'm expecting this to be an expensive night for you...
Price of ticket = Free
Fact that USA volleyball just won (had them at +250) = :)
Booze = Expensive
Yea it'll be expensive but after USA mens Bball win Gold I'll be more than covered
Oh and the bet wasn't for money....it was for beer on Wednesday during Canada's game
yf canada is currently -0.5 -124.
you on it!!??
What Phelps has done is impressive, but I think if you were to ask the casual sports fan in five years what they'd remember more they'd say "that Jamaican annihilating everyone in the 100m" more than they'd say "that American winning...umm...a pile of medals?" Sure the American media will help keep Phelps name prominent but EVERYBODY knows that the 100m is the marquee event of the Olympics, and Bolt owned that like nobody ever has.
Oh, YF...sorry about Damon's inability to catch.
