Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 - Ronaldinhorse

Lovely pic of Ronaldinho, no?...and now for something completely different. Chicago Cubs closer Kerry Wood has avoided going to the DL. Strange, but true...what says "I'm guilty" more than knowing you're going to get pulled for a doping test after winning a stage of the Tour de France, and trying to flee like two stage winner and the brilliantly named Riccardo Ricco did? Here's an idea for the Tour: either ditch the whole thing, or just let everybody do whatever they want and see what a bunch of freaked out cyclists can do...the mob tried to buy Lazio of Italy's Serie Zzzzz? Awesome. There's gotta be a movie in there somewhere...if the Boston Red Sox let Man Ram go and chase the Colorado Rockies Matt Holliday, they'll be sorry. Holliday is another in a long line of guys with great numbers at home, and nothing on the road...it is official: Cristiano Ronaldo is incapable of stating a firm opinion. How else to explain him musing he might be bound for the LA Galaxy one day...Mats Sundin will make a decision in two weeks time as to his hockey future. See Brett Favre, this is how it is done. no guns-to-heads, no flip-flopping, no "hold on until I let you know" and no demands like you're the de facto GM...the U.S. men's Olympic hoops team is going by "Redeem Team" and has emphasized team so much they put their names on their jerseys in a muted light blue while the team name is in flaming red. If they're focused, it's going to be fun watching them steamroll the competition. Of concern, Lebron James left practice with a wonky ankle. The U.S. faces Canada Friday in what will surely get ugly...an A-Rod and Madonna sex tape? I'll say one thing of A-Rod, whether this is true or not, the man is locked in on the diamond...Toronto FC drew at home to Montreal Impact to bow out of the CONCACAF Champions League. Frankly, that is embarrassing. More embarrassing is if you're TFC striker Jeff Cunningham, and your coach gets off this blast on you after you miss a sure goal in the dying seconds: "Seeing that — it makes me wonder how he's scored 99 goals in this league." Kudos to GBVH for that find...a brawl in the WNBA? Video included in SportsCentre below, plus extended video below that which includes the quote that Rick Mahorn was "in some way touching Lisa Leslie". Gold. No horses had to be put down following this one, fortunately...is it me, or does it seem like every other time the Phillies are playing the Mets, they're coming back late? 6 runs in the 9th last night was the latest...have a great Wednesday.

Those moms in 114 tried to have me arrested last night. Reason: Swearing. The March to the stadium was a thing of beauty. However, it must be said...fuck TFC. They just got outplayed and outclassed.

Mom's in 114? Not at our end. Trust me on that - I'm usually dropping a generous helping of "motherfuckers" throughout a game.

Last night their was a kids soccer team above row 20. I'll admit every 2nd word I said was FUCK but I'm in the fucking supporter section. If you don't want your soccer kids listening to me cuss....then go spend money on a ticket in 223. The cops grabbed me aside (9 pints after) and thankfully I knew them. Told me the moms and dads had complained about me swearing and drinking all game.

Ruined my night but thankfully it happened at the end of the game.

What a freaking joke. As if it is your fault that they're so clueless they don't know what they're getting sitting there. That's like buying tickets to Monday Night Raw and bitching about signs.

Terrible about Rocco, but you got this completely wrong. So far this tour 4 people have been busted for drug use, that is 4 out of 200 cyclist, or 2%. The methods they use this year a far superior to earlier and they have a god relationship with pharmaceutical companies and are able to develop methods to test the drugs before the drugs are on the market.

Another problem is the conflict between UCI (international cycling federation) and ASO (the organization running Tour de France). ASO are fighting hard to get rid of drugs while UCI rather just brush it under the carpet. Funny how UCI declared cycling drug free after no one got caught during the tour of Italy while the second place finisher and two stage winner in Italy, Rocco gets caught only a few weeks later. Tour de France is close to the only one taking drugs seriously, the rest of the pro-cycling you can throw in the gutter for all I care.

2% during tour de france... I'm pretty certain if NFL and NHL had the same stringent testing as Tour de France the percentage would be higher. Too bad they don't have the guts to take drug use seriously.

It's funny that you used "so far", because we know there will be more...and plenty more that got away with it.

A few more, maybe, I can agree on that. Plenty more who got away with it, I doubt so. Rocco got caught by using a new drug for those with kidney disease (a new type of EPO). WADA went out before the Tour and said they couldn't trace it... It was a huge lie, in fact they had worked closely with the pharmaceutical company finding ways to trace it before it went on the market. Further, using drugs in France now and being in possession of it will give you several years behind bars. The sponsors are also putting a lot of pressure on the teams which means they have to have more stringent controls internally as well. There's a lot of problems still going on in biking, but it is pretty obvious that they are on the right track (at least ASO are).

This year's tour is more even and exciting than in several years now, and even with a few drug scandals this is looking to be a turning point.
